- What’s the most important thing someone needs to know before they start a consulting business?
Fully understand their purpose, mission, and which services they will and will not offer. Understand their legal limits and their personal limits. Be sure to know what they can offer, and how much their time and effort is worth. (I guess that’s not one most important thing. LOL!! Sorry)
- How does creativity help eliminate stress?
The more creative a practitioner can be, the more outside the box one can think when creating interesting and engaging marketing strategies…. which in turn should be able to increase clients
- What’s your favorite tip for booking more speaking gigs?
Do your research and find every opportunity that you may possibly qualify for. Then speak up! Ask if they need a speaker. Tell them the topic(s ) that you would be able to talk about. Ask multiple times. Even if you don’t get the gig the first time, they are likely to remember you for future gigs.
- Describe a time when you had a low in your career and had to bounce back.
Starting off was the lowest so far. Being new to the field, unknown in the area, and in a field that is practically unknown it’s taken quite a bit to just get started. The thing that I always had/have to remind myself is that I chose this career and understood that there would be challenges. I know my ‘why’. I know what it is that drives me to continue to do what I do, and I remind myself as often as necessary why I started so that I can motivate myself to continue.
- What’s the best advice you’ve received about designing a career that you love?
Know your purpose, your plan and your why. You have to have a passion for what it is that you do so that whether times are good or not so good, you will still have that same passion to continue. Be sure to plan. Going into a field with no plan, no matter how much passion you have, is going to make it much more difficult for you to get the job done and reach the people. And know your why… understand what it is that drives you so that when / if times get tough or you start to doubt yourself, your ‘why’ can drive you to continue to better times.
